Sugarfoot
The Hero We Don't Deserve...
The reason for this entire streaming platform. The Saint in Spurs, the forgotten Western legend that deserves to be shown to every new generation. Tom Brewster is a "Learnin' Lawyer" getting his education by mail as he roams the West, tumbling into scrapes and saving the day. By far the most peaceable of heroes, Tom doesn't believe in letting his guns do the talking, nor is he quick to pick a fight, hence the insult of a moniker he is always given, "Sugarfoot." Just never underestimate him. Once he gets his dander up... ain't nobody quicker on the draw.
Starring the ridiculously endearing Will Hutchins.

My Three Sons
Welcome home.
The coziest sitcom of all time. Starring Fred MacMurray as Steve Douglas, widowed father of three sons, and William Frawley (I Love Lucy) as his cantankerous Irish father-in-law who takes over as mother-figure for the family.
Brilliantly written, poignant & lasting for an epic run of twelve seasons.
(By the end, the sons have sons.)
Co-starring Tim Considine, Don Grady & Stanley Livingston.

77 Sunset Strip
Murders in Hollywood...
They got no right to be this homey... not until you arrive at the detective agency on Sunset Strip.
Sure, it might not technically be a western, but once you're a nerd you'll understand why it's here.
Featuring a terrific ensemble cast, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. (of Maverick fame, where he plays the charmingly devious con artist Dandy Jim Buckley), Roger Smith, Edd Byrnes (commonly seen in Westerns playing hotheaded villains), Louis Quinn, Jacqueline Beer, & Richard Long (known for Big Valley & as the Maverick brothers' OTHER con artist nemesis/buddy, Gentleman Jack.

Maverick
Who is the Tall, Dark Stranger There?
Maverick is the name.
Two gambling brothers wander from the riverboats of New Orleans to the rugged camps of the Gold Rush. The ladies love 'em (& sometimes try to murder them) but money is always the true love that trumps all for the Maverick boys. Until the times they have to prove themselves extremely reluctant heroes.
Starring the one-and-only James Garner & Jack Kelly. And featuring a stellar cast of recurring mischievous guest stars out to fleece 'em.

The Virginian
A World of Its Own
Every episode feels like its own movie, for nine glorious seasons. (So we won't run out any time soon.)
Few epic westerns are as homey as The Virginian, thanks to the camaraderie of its ensemble cast & its steady location at Shiloh Ranch. The foreman is a man called the Virginian (played by the versatile James Drury) and backstory wise, that's all you're ever gonna get.
Doug McClure plays Trampas (if you've read the book, forget everything you know) for all nine seasons, creating one of the most iconic cowboy friendships to ever exist on or off the screen.
Shiloh is first owned by Judge Garth, played by the legendary Lee J. Cobb (Twelve Angry Men, The Brothers Karamazov).
Other regulars include Gary Clarke, Randy Boone, LQ Jones, Clu Gulager, Roberta Shore, Tim Matheson, Don Quine, Sara Lane, John McIntyre and his real-life wife Jeanette Nolan, and veteran star Charles Bickford.
Don't even get me STARTED on guest stars...

Lawman
The Man Who Rides All Alone...
And who always has his loyal sidekick at his side... (yeah, the theme song kinda missed the point.)
Starring John Russell as Marshal Dan Troop and Peter Brown as Johnny McKay.

Wanted: Dead or Alive
The Definition of Cool
Before he became the movie star folks remember today, Steve McQueen was Josh Randall, a bounty hunter with a quick temper, quicker gun (sawed off rifle named Mare's Leg) and a wonderful knack for getting into trouble. Wanted:Dead or Alive is sometimes comedic, sometimes very dark, and (since it's Steve) always entertaining.

MacGyver
Even Cooler?
So maybe it ain't a Western. I don't care. Bro has been my hero as far back as I can remember. The hero who hates guns, and chooses wit over weapon. The super spy who never admits what he does for a living.
As an 80s & 90s show, this one sometimes gets a little bit grungier. That's why you watch it with me, cuz I'll be your VidAngel.
Starring the magnificent, indomitable Richard Dean Anderson.

The Rebel
The Anti-Hero
Controversial in an era of white knights & straight-shootin' lawmen, the Rebel is a darker show with edgier tones & an unusual leading man. In a world of 6'6" kind-hearted cowboys, Nick Adams' Johnny Yuma is a diminutive hothead with a short fuse, a dark past and a restless soul, who can't yet end the Civil war in his own head and heart.

Bourbon Street Beat
New Orleans Detectives
The sister show to 77 Sunset Strip, starring Richard Long in the same role of Rex Randolph. Co-Starring big Andrew Duggan, Arlene Howell (yet another Maverick foil), and Van Williams, as the South's version of Hollywood's "Kookie."

Wagon Train
Tell Me A Story...
A legendary show that ran for eight popular seasons, Wagon Train has a fixed ensemble cast, but follows the format of telling a different guest star's story each week, almost to the point of being an anthology. We follow the wagon train on their repeated journeys West, with enough variety and poignant new storylines to make it always feel original. Starring Ward Bond and Robert Horton in the first several seasons, with John McIntyre & Robert Fuller in later years, along with an amazing supporting cast: Frank McGrath, Terry Wilson, Denny Miller & Michael Burns.

Bronco
There Ain't A Horse That He Can't Handle... That's How He Got His Name....
(Sing it with me now!)
Bronco Lane is a big, feisty cowboy with a gentle voice and pretty face, and the typical Western talent for stumbling into wild problems every week at exactly the same airing time.

Cheyenne
Lonely Man.
Cheyenne Bodie, played by big ole' Clint Walker, was the epitome of the classic Western, gentle-giant hero. For seven seasons he fought the bad guys and roamed the West, fought off the ladies who threw themselves at him, and solved other peoples' problems.
Peppered with every amazing guest star under the sun, Cheyenne is an exciting show for this Western Nerd to watch with y'all, since I don't know it as well as the others and I'll be first-timing a lot of episodes with y'all.
This is a terrific music video to give you a taste of Cheyenne, (highlights the history of the show itself in American culture) along with a song about Clint Walker by Kelly Wayne.

Rawhide
Rollin, Rollin, Rollin...
You never know how cozy a cattle drive can feel until you been with one for seven seasons. One of the rare shows to sometimes to strings of sequential episodes for the sake of character development.
Starring Eric Fleming and Clint Eastwood.
(And the world's homiest supporting cast.)

Bonanza
The Iconic Western
Second only to Gunsmoke in mainstream Western fame (for the non-nerds in the world to meet me halfway) Bonanza ran for 14 seasons and went down in history as the quintessential western show.
Starring Lorne Greene as Ben Cartwright, with Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker and (the master of sobbing, giggling & getting shot pretty much on the daily) Michael Landon as his three sons, Adam, Hoss & Little Joe.
Click below for one of (the many) Bonanza tribute videos that works great as a trailer. Basically just to sum up nine seasons of Michael Landon getting the daylights beaten outta him...

Laredo
Ludicrous Good Times
Not your average serious western (unless you're used to the Monkees and cowboys all wear paisley hats where you come from...)
Laredo is pure chaos and corny good times, and somehow the cast entirely makes it worthwhile.
It follows a trio of Texas Rangers and stars Neville Brand (a war hero who scared the living daylights outta this Western Nerd as a child playing kidnappers & gangsters) the muscle-bound William Smith (later known for playing classic villains of the 80s and 90s) and Peter Brown, of Lawman. Phil Carey plays their forever exasperated Captain, and Dutch actor Robert Wolders was added in the second season as a ranger who deserves to be hung for his fashion sense alone.

Laramie
The Stage Stop...
Slim Sherman (played by John Smith) runs a stage stop for a mail company, aided by his little brother and a drifter named Jess Harper (played by Robert Fuller.)
This nerd hasn't seen enough of Laramie to add more colorful opinions, so we'll have the joy of figuring it out together...
